The Ministry of Finance and National Planning is pleased to share Tonga's Millennium Development Goals Final Report 2015.
This report documents Tonga's progress over the last 15 years in meeting the targets set in 2000 for the eight goals stated in the UN Declaration of the Millennium Development Goals. This report not only focuses on the progress over time and define what has been achieved, as well as the challenges and enabling factors that have shaped the final ends of the MDGs. It is valuable resource, especially the ‘milestones’ which provides us with an opportunity to learn the important lessons for our social and economic development.
Towards the end of the report, the ‘unfinished business’ of the MDGs, especially areas that need more time and resources, are identified and highlighted, with the idea that they are still important to be pursued as part of our development agenda, especially linking them to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and integrating them to Tonga's Strategic Development Framework II (TSDF).
The completion of the report would not have been possible without the input and support of line Government Ministries, Civil Society Organisations, Church leaders and Non Government Organisations, the leadership of the National MDGs Taskforce and the hard work of the MDGs Technical Working Committee.
I encourage you to share this report with your counterparts and associates. If you need further clarifications, I would invite you to meet with us to discuss the report recommendations and way forward plans. The Ministry of Finance and National Planning with the technical assistance of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will be more than happy to meet with you.
I thank you for your continuous assistance and collaborations on these matters.
