Re: AusAID funded 215 Plastic Water Tanks in Ha’apai

The Acting Secretary for Finance & National Planning, Mr ‘Aholotu Palu signed on Thursday 29^th September, 2011 with Branch Manager of Rotomould (Pacific) Ltd, Mr Pranil P. Naidu the contract for supply and installation of 215 Plastic Water Tanks in the Ha’apai Group.

This project was funded by Government of Australia under their Tonga Community Development Scheme, which goal is to contribute to the alleviation of hardship and poverty including the improvement of everyday lives of the people of Tonga and encourage healthy living.

Even though, this program has been phase out with financial year 2008/09 its last cycle, AusAID was happy to allocate this fund for provision of water tanks to people of Ha’apai.

The total contract is T$793,982.50 and project is schedule to complete by end of February, 2012.  The project will benefit most of the islands of Ha’apai in exception of Fonoi Island who received 26 Plastic Water Tanks later this year funded by Government of Japan.

The Aid Management Division of the Ministry of Finance & National Planning will closely monitor the implementation of this project.
